In April 15th 1865, the Tarragona-Martorell section of the railway line to Barcelona was open. It was the inland part of the line.
To celebrate this aniversary, a group of societies and organizations related with the county and the railway got toghether to organize some celebration events.
The organizations involved in these events are: l’Institut d’Estudis Penedesencs, Amics del Ferrocarril del Penedès, Centre d’Estudis d’Altafulla, Port de Tarragona, Centre d’Estudis Sinibald de Mas de Torredembarra, Amics de la Història del Vendrell, Arxiu Comarcal del Baix Penedès, Associació Cultural Ferroviària de Tarragona i província, Memòria Ferroviària de Tarragona, Amics del Ferrocarril de Martorell.
The Railway Museum of Catalonia had been part of this events aswell, assessing the book and the exhibition.
Some of the aniversary events that had been held, had been: a conference cicle and video projections with the train as a focus, a new book edition titled “150 years of the Tarragona-Martorell railway”, a temporal exhibition with a short video complement, a photografic contest, a special stamp and a postmark requested to “Correos”, some musical pieces composed specially for the ocasion, and a conmemorative train.
The temporal exhibition had been already in several cities nearby the Tarragona-Martorell line, such as Altafulla, el Vendrell, Torredembarra, l’Arboç, etc.
Now it opens at the “XXI century hall”, at the Railway Mueum of Catalonia, from January 16th to April 3rd
In it you can see 18 panels with the graphic material used to elaborate the exhibition book, and a miniature of the railway path, made with cork by specialist Vicenç Cabre Brugulat.
